How our mattress finder works
Finding the right handmade mattress is not about picking the most expensive option or the softest feel -- it is about matching the construction and filling to the way you actually sleep. Our mattress finder asks six targeted questions about your sleep position, body weight, temperature preference, any pain or discomfort you experience, your bed size, and your budget. Those answers are then scored against every mattress Harry makes, and we surface the one that fits best along with a personalised explanation of why.
Every mattress in the Harry Benmore range is handmade in the UK using natural fillings and pocket spring construction -- no synthetic foam, no rolled-up mattresses in a box. The finder helps you cut through the range and land on the right pocket spring mattress for your body and your sleep style, without needing to spend an afternoon in a showroom.
Why sleep position matters more than firmness
Most people shop for a mattress by firmness -- soft, medium, or firm -- but firmness alone is an unreliable guide. A side sleeper needs a mattress that gives at the shoulder and hip to keep the spine aligned, whilst a back or front sleeper needs more resistance beneath the lumbar region. The right tension for you depends on both your sleep position and your body weight, which is why the finder uses both together to derive a firmness recommendation rather than asking you to guess.
Natural fillings and temperature regulation
One of the most common reasons people struggle to sleep is temperature. Synthetic foam traps heat; natural fillings -- wool, alpaca, silk, cashmere, cotton -- breathe and regulate body temperature passively through the night. If you run warm, the finder will steer you towards mattresses with ventilated spring cores and lighter fill weights. If you run cold, it will prioritise deeper, insulating fills like alpaca and cashmere. Either way, a handmade natural fill mattress performs significantly better than foam on temperature regulation.
Not sure after seeing your results?
The finder is a starting point, not a final word. Harry is happy to talk through your results personally. Drop him a message on WhatsApp and he will give you a straight answer -- no sales pressure, just honest advice from the person who built the mattress.
